Skeptics still ask "why connect on LinkedIn"? WIIFM?

The most basic question keeps coming up. Why should I connect with people I don't know on LinkedIn? Who should I connect with and why? What's in it for me?

There are limits...

I reached the 30,000 LinkedIn connection limit in 2009 and I've been turning my eye to quality ever since. I learned a lot about what you gain and what you lose when you connect and disconnect as I shed 15,000 connections to keep on adding more, better connections to my network. Frankly, it's a pain in the butt.
