Why are companies banning ChatGPT?

Hello folks! ??

Back in April, a Samsung employee wanted to check the source code for possible errors and decided to give ChatGPT a try. ?? ??

Little did they know that it would have far-reaching consequences!

Within a few days, Samsung banned all its employees from using ChatGPT and other generative AI tools. ??

It doesn't stop there. Other industry leaders, including JPMorgan Chase, Verizon, Accenture, and Amazon, have also restricted the usage of ChatGPT within their workplaces.

Now you might wonder, why the sudden aversion to a tool that supposedly makes employees' lives easier? ??

Turns out, anything you share with ChatGPT is stored and used to further train the model! This means that the data you’ve shared with the tool could potentially be seen by others.

Data privacy is a big concern for businesses today. ??

Unauthorized usage of company data to train ChatGPT models could lead to a severe breach of privacy. So, it's not surprising that companies now want to keep a check on how their employees use generative AI tools.

If you are an IT leader, here are a few recommended actions you can take today:

  • Educate your employees about the risks: Make sure your employees know that they should not share sensitive or proprietary information with generative AI tools.
  • Turn off chat history: Encourage users to turn off chat history on ChatGPT. This way, their conversations won't be stored on external servers, reducing the risk of data exposure.
  • Track ChatGPT usage in your organization: Using a SaaS management platform like Zluri, you can gain valuable insights into ChatGPT usage within your organization. With this information, you can proactively monitor and restrict usage when necessary.

Stay safe!
