Why Communication Professionals Need to Stick Together

Why Communication Professionals Need to Stick Together

If you’re a communications professional, you’ve probably heard (or said) this phrase before: “We learn on the job.” And if you’ve been in the game for a while, like I have (15 years, but who’s counting?), you know it’s frustratingly true. There’s no one-size-fits-all degree or playbook for what we do, and that reality often leads to behind-closed-doors conversations about imposter syndrome, second-guessing, and wondering if you’re really “doing it right.”

As someone who has worked in-house, at agencies, and as a self-employed consultant, I’ve experienced this firsthand. Each role was a new adventure: navigating uncharted waters, solving problems on the fly, and occasionally Googling, “How do I [insert client challenge]?” (Let’s normalize that, okay?).

The Loneliness of the Comms Hustle

It’s funny, isn’t it? We’re experts at connecting people through strategic messaging, yet we often feel disconnected in our own careers. Even with LinkedIn networks and professional associations, there’s still a gap when it comes to meaningful, real-world support tailored to what we do day in and day out.

Let’s face it: communication work is complex. There’s no singular roadmap for managing client crises, positioning thought leaders, or creating campaigns that actually move the needle. And if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably wished for a space where you could:

  1. Ask questions without feeling judged.
  2. Celebrate your wins because, honestly, we don’t do that enough. (!!!)
  3. Troubleshoot challenges with people who just get it.
  4. Learn from others who’ve been where you are—or where you’re headed.

Building a Space for Connection and Growth

This is exactly why I’m creating a community for communications professionals at all stages of their careers. Think of it as a mix of connecting, consulting, coaching, and good old-fashioned cheering each other on.

The goal is simple: to provide a space where we can support one another, share insights, and collectively grow as professionals. Whether you’re a seasoned vet navigating complex challenges or a newcomer figuring out your first big client pitch, this group will be a judgment-free zone to:

  • Learn from each other.
  • Share resources.
  • Ask questions.
  • Offer (and receive) support.

Because, let’s be honest: the more we help each other, the better we all become.

Let’s Do This Together

If you’re nodding along right now, maybe it’s time we stop quietly wishing for more support and start building it. If this resonates with you, hit me up. Whether you’re interested in joining the group, sharing ideas, or just curious, I’d love to connect.

Let’s make this something awesome. Because in the world of communications, we don’t have to figure it all out alone.

Stay tuned - more to come ASAP!
