Why Coach-Like CEOs Are The Future of Leadership.

Why Coach-Like CEOs Are The Future of Leadership.

Hello Visionary Leaders,

In today's issue, we explore the transformative impact of developing a coach-like approach in leadership, emphasizing the essential qualities of curiosity, compassion, and consciousness that define the exceptionally transformational coach-like CEOs in the world.

Concept

The future of leadership lies in embodying the principles of a coach-like CEO:

  • Curiosity keeps leaders engaged in continuous learning and understanding team dynamics.
  • Compassion ensures that leaders connect with their teams on a human level, fostering a supportive and nurturing environment.
  • Consciousness involves making decisions that not only benefit the organization but also contribute positively to society and the environment.

Experience

Developing a coach-like leadership style has fundamentally changed how I interact with my team and lead our company. It has also been the most important skill set that sets my CEO, C-Suite, and Senior Leader clientele apart from the rest of the leaders at their level.

One thing that I and other coach-like leaders do is maintain regular (weekly or bi-weekly) check-ins with team members about their well-being and professional aspirations. Being genuinely curious about how my teammates are feeling as well as what they want for their lives and their careers enables them to reflect and take intentional actions toward the future they want for themselves.

This approach also empowers them to define their own paths, building self-trust and integrity. By ensuring that each team member’s actions align with our overarching vision of co-creating freedom and fulfillment, we maintain a focused and motivated team.

Something I and other coach-like leaders consciously practice is compassion. Let's face it, life can be tremendously challenging and being able to hold space for our teammates when things aren't perfectly rosy is a critical difference-maker that enables teammates to feel seen and safe to fully express themselves. This kind of psychological safety is invaluable when it comes to building trust and makes way for even bigger and more important conversations.

Lastly, the best and most powerful coach-like leaders are all highly conscious of themselves and the world around them. This does not mean they are always aware of everything going on, but it does mean they are in-tune and connected to the experience of themselves and the people around them and they deeply feel what emotion and energy of the world.

In practice, this looks like a combination of being both curious and compassionate. Asking important questions, while also practicing compassion for the wants, desires, and challenges of teammates will help one build consciousness for what is happening in the world.

This practice not only enhances individual fulfillment but has also driven sustainable organizational growth and minimized negative impacts on our team and the broader world. The empowerment and alignment created through this leadership style have resulted in a deeply committed and effective team.

Learning

Coach-like leadership, while sometimes appearing or feeling as though it is the longer path, ultimately fosters deeper commitment and more sustainable success over a longer-period of time. Coach-like leaders keep teammates aligned and inspired towards the vision and mission through curiosity, compassion, and consciousness. Allowing team members to set their own timelines encourages ownership and typically results in them meeting their commitments more reliably.
