Cleanliness is the Hallmark of perfect standards and the best quality inspector is the conscience- J.R.D Tata
For children, school is the starting premise to learn what life is. Living a fulfilled life is to live in a virtuous and right manner, in a way that abides by the morality and ethics. It also includes understanding the moral responsibility as a citizen.
The foremost role of any citizen is to keep their surroundings clean. One cannot form this habit all of a sudden. This has to be in practice since the time children are in school. They should know how to keep their classroom premises clean, how to use and clean restrooms properly and how to take care of the utensils. They should have lessons on cleanliness, environmental safeguarding and much more.
Apart from teachers helping them to learn more about cleanliness, we can showcase school dramas, short films or documentary movies to emphasize on the importance of cleanliness.
Being an advocate of cleanliness, it is my duty to teach my children to uphold their ethics and act as a better citizen. It all starts with the parents. Before joining the school, the first-ever teachers for any kid would be their mother, father and grandparents. Hence family members should stay a step above in teaching kids on hygienic habits. Some of the habits include teaching the kids to wash their utensils after eating, throwing the discarded or waste items in the dust bins and keeping their rooms neat and tidy.
I have friends who reward their kids on this basis. But it is true that these basic things should come from within for children, without any expectations. Children are the voice of our nation. Everything depends on their attitude and what they learn today. It is of utmost vitality in our hands to teach them the right things. This is what they would follow once they reach their school.
Teachers should speak out more on healthy habits to keep their surroundings clean. Right from placing the bags in their place to throwing the sharpener dust in the bins, every small thing counts. If this is going to be a regular practice, they can become the most respected citizens at whichever place they travel across the globe.
Being clean is all about being aware of why they should be clean. Let’s join hands to create awareness on these topics.
I will be talking out more on how to help children become the best version of themselves, on behalf of Pattem Foundation, our NGO aiming to help the right person at the right time, in the right ways. We are building a crazy product that is going to revolutionise the donation system across the world.
Let’s never let the inner glow in our hearts extinguish! It’s time to keep it shining!
