Why Choosing a Tutor for your Kids is Even Harder than Buying them Shoes

This summer, I have one child sitting A Levels, another facing GCSEs and a third doing SATs. Some years are like that.
Investing in tutors to help my children through these thresholds is a necessary expense. Making sure that I choose the right tutors is the really tricky part.?
When my kids were little, I only ever went to one shoe shop. Russel and Bromley Kids in Brent Cross was the only place I trusted to give me the choice and the fitting for everyone in one go. Three times a year, just before term started, I’d roll up with my five little kids in tow. That’s ten little feet, fifty little toes, and five hundred opinions. What if my children refused to participate? What if they didn’t have the right shoe in stock? What if they did, but they cost the earth??
Finding the right fit and the right style for the right price was so important. The pressure of finding the right shoes to support these amazing humans when I wasn’t around felt like a measure of my parenting power. Choosing a tutor is even more high stakes.?
I only have one chance to help my children to get the grades they need. How can I be sure that the one tutor I choose to work with my child at this crucial moment in his education, is the right one?
That’s why I created the independent QT Accredited Tutor Directory.

Four years ago, as a school leader and a mother I realized that employing tutors is far too haphazard. We rely on recommendations from other parents for a tutor or agency, or we search on social media or online platforms. With so many tutors to choose from, and so many possible routes, how can a parent choose wisely?
This is the problem for parents who are investing to support their children. It’s also problem for students who need all the help they can get. And it’s a major problem for excellent tutors who struggle to stand out from the crowd.?
The QT Directory is a list of tutors and tutor companies in every niche who have passed the Qualified Tutor quality assurance process. Based on our experience in tutor training and community, we define Responsible Tutoring as a commitment to ensuring that a tutor is Safe, Skilled and Supported.
Within the directory you will be able to find a range who have proven their commitment to Responsible Tutoring.
Just as I had one trusted independent shoe shop when my kids were little, I now have one independent resource for finding the right tutor.?Now I just need to get them to sit still long enough to try them out...

1 年Having recently attempted to find a tutor for my 13 year old I was simply shocked by 'who' claims they can be an academic tutor. Accreditation is much needed. Well done Julia Silver ?? for setting the gold standard.
