Why choose underfloor heating?
Impey - UK's Market Leading Wetroom Brand

1. How does underfloor heating work?
Impey’s electric underfloor heating system is a high-quality heating solution which adds a luxurious feel to any wetroom.
The Aqua-Mat system consists of a thin heating wire, which is pre-spaced on a self-adhesive mesh backing for quick and easy installation. When the heating is switched on, the warmth radiates from the wire, through the floor, to create a pleasant, ambient heat.
Electric underfloor heating works using a low-voltage circuit. It can be used throughout the year to create a background heat which will help to dry out the floor tiles after the wetroom has been used and is ideal for ensuring that grouting is dried and remains mould free.
Impey products including our wetroom floor formers and WaterGuard waterproofing solution?are compatible with wet and dry underfloor heating.
2. What are the benefits of underfloor heating?
Underfloor heating is often more energy efficient than other forms of heating. Because it runs at a lower temperature it can save money on heating bills and create a more sustainable environment.
For the ultimate in comfort, underfloor heating takes the chill off a tiled floor, making the experience of using a wetroom more enjoyable and adding a touch of luxury to the wetroom space.
After showering, underfloor heating will dry out any patches of standing water as well as the grouting between floor tiles, reducing instances of mould and creating a cosy environment.
And of course, underfloor heating is a hidden heat source, creating more versatility for your wetroom design.
3. How much does underfloor heating cost to install and run?
It varies depending on your utility provider. Our rule of thumb is that the cost will be around 1p per hour, per square metre of underfloor heating. You can discuss this in more detail with your installer.
4. How is underfloor heating installed – do I need to dig up my floor?
Electric underfloor heating like our Aqua-Mat system is fitted retrospectively. Opting for underfloor heating as part of your wetroom installation ensures the easiest and most-streamlined process. When used in an Impey wetroom, underfloor heating is laid between the WaterGuard tanking system and the floor tiles.
Flexible multiple lengths make fitting easier. The Aqua-Mat underfloor heating system comes in 100watt and 150watt versions. It is only 3mm thick and supplied on a self-adhesive mesh backing.

5. Which floor coverings work best with underfloor heating?
The majority of wetroom installations are fitted with suitable floor tiles, which are excellent for conducting the warmth from the underfloor heating.
In an accessible wetroom, vinyl can also be used as a compatible option.
And outside the wetroom, wooden or laminate floors can also be well suited to underfloor heating environments.
Always check with the manufacturer’s installation instructions if you are unsure whether your flooring type can be laid on top of underfloor heating.
6. How is underfloor heating controlled?
Just like your radiators, underfloor heating is controlled using a thermostat. An individual thermostat can be used to control the temperature of the underfloor heating in your wetroom. The temperature can be regulated by an ambient air temperature control or via a floor sensor; discuss these options with your installer before the underfloor heating is laid. ?
7. Can I use underfloor heating with heat pumps and solar panels?
Yes, both heat pumps and solar panels should provide enough energy to power your underfloor heating.
8. I have a radiator, can I have underfloor heating too?
Yes, in a wetroom it is common to use a combination of underfloor heating and a ladder style towel rail. The underfloor heating does an excellent job of drying out the floor and ensuring your feet are not cold. Whereas the wall-hung radiator will offer a place to air your towels and help to increase the temperature in the wetroom, ensuring it stays toasty in the cooler months.
