Do you feel like you want to make some big changes, but you can’t do it alone??
Maybe you’ve seen my posts on LinkedIn and thought “that sounds good, but I’m not sure if it’s for me”.?
Or read a blog, decided that you’re definitely going to take my advice… but didn’t quite find the time for it.?
Or even… opened my calendar link to book in a call but then backed out, thinking “what would I even ask her for?”
If this sounds like you, this blog is to show you what it would be like working with me. This is how it can help you, and how it will change your life.?
If you don’t take action, those negative voices will just keep nagging you, you’ll feel rudderless for longer and eventually start to lose all confidence in yourself.
I know this because clients come to my discovery calls in tears, exhausted and exasperated and feeling powerless in their current situation. I can help, but I’d much rather you come to me before you’ve totally run out of steam.?
The last thing I want is for you to keep wondering, for weeks, months or even years, if I might be able to help you.?
Wonder no more.?
THIS is what it is like to work with me, in my own words and my clients’.?
Like you being worried you have an incurable brain tumour (thanks Google) but you don’t, and we can do something about it???
The biggest barrier to getting help from me, is thinking that you need to know exactly what is wrong and what help you need before you get in touch. This leads to hours of internet research into why you can’t seem to stay happy at work, why changing jobs didn’t help you, or why you can’t seem to shake that feeling that you’re going to get found out one day. None of that will make you feel good or get you where you need to be.?
You don’t need to know exactly what is wrong.?
It’s my job to help you work out what is bothering you, what you want to change and what might be behind it.?
It’s your job to be ready to make the change, and join me on the journey.?
Like having a personal chef for your mind???????
Imagine asking your personal chef to make you breakfast, and they come back to you with a beef wellington, saying that one of their other clients enjoyed having it for dinner last week.?
(Yes, I know it’s a stretch, I’ve never had a personal chef either).?
Sadly, I know that some of you have experienced this one-size-fits-all approach with coaches or trainers in the past.?
When you work with me, we co-design the menu. No beef wellington for breakfast (unless that’s really what you want).?
From every session, we’ll co-create a tool or an action for you to take your learnings into real life. It will be practical and effective. And if it’s not, we’ll tweak it.?
Yes, I’ll bring my ideas to the table (I am the chef in this analogy after all), but the tool will be designed by you. Then I will help you to stress-test if it will really work for YOUR life: how much time will it take, when you will do it, what support would you need, and how will you stay on track.?
This means you get real change, in real life, in real time.?
Like a sigh of relief ????
When was the last time you thought about breathing??
So many of my clients say they are “drowning” at work, they “can’t catch a breath” between meetings, or they’re on a “never-ending hamster wheel”, exerting themselves more and more.?
When we start a session, I create a calm and focussed space for you (perhaps the first one you’ve had in a long time?).?
We’ll do a short but powerful exercise to bring you back to the present moment, through breathing techniques and focussing on our five senses.?
Most people breathe a huge sigh of contentment after this.?
One of my clients found herself in tears during this exercise, because she had literally never taken 3 minutes for herself, between work, family and a big perfectionist streak. And no, I didn’t ask her any mean questions!?
And if that sounds a bit “woo woo” to you, it’s backed by science.?
Deep breathing and connecting to the present moment calm down the nervous system, getting us out of “fight or flight” mode and into a zone where we can think more creatively and calmly. Much better for making big life decisions, wouldn’t you say?
Like a sticker chart for adults ?
The real work happens outside our sessions, so you’ll need to pluck up your courage, and implement the tools and actions we’ve agreed on. If you don’t, it’s all talk and no trousers, and nothing changes.?
If you’re reading this, I am sure that you are someone who really cares about their learning and development, who takes ownership of situations and doesn’t blame others when something goes wrong (or doesn’t happen at all).?
But sometimes even you need a bit of extra accountability to keep things moving.?
Part of this will be built into the awesome tools we create, and part of this will come from me. I’ll be a mix of a cheerleader and that teacher at school who everyone loved even though they could be tough (no one ever skipped homework for that class).?
Like a warm hug ??
Do you remember a time when you felt truly safe? When you knew that you could be absolutely yourself, and no one would judge you??
For many of us, it’s been a very long time since we felt like that.?
Even with our spouses, parents and best friends, we can hide parts of ourselves in case they come across as weird, wrong or embarrassing.?
Don’t worry about looking stupid or not having your shit together. My style is compassionate, empathetic and non-judgemental.?
As we get to know each other, you will feel that you can trust me, allowing you to open up and perhaps share some things that you haven’t shared with anyone else. Your secrets are safe with me, because all our conversations are fully confidential.?
That doesn’t mean I won’t challenge you, but it will always be with your best intentions at heart.?
Like being a fish who sees water for the first time ??
I have struggled with a fear of failure since I was a kid. I was good at everything I did, because if I wasn’t good at something, I wouldn’t even try it.?
I worked with a coach to dig into this fear, as it was holding me back from speaking up at work, making me second-guess myself constantly, and assuming I was always to blame if something went wrong (very tiring).?
Having already done a bit of work on my mindset, I assumed it would be something to do with seeking approval from my dad. My parents split up when I was a baby and I lived with my mum. We were like two peas in a pod; it was us against the world since I was a kid.?
Imagine my shock when we discovered that my fear of failure was actually driven by a fear of disappointing my mum. A need to prove her right for all the time and effort she had invested in me, my education and my future. A desire to justify everything she had sacrificed so that “I could make it out of the working class, single mum cycle”.?
There I was, sitting in a condo in Singapore, with a fancy job at a big MNC, happily married with a dog, and regular holidays around South-East Asia. Worrying that my mum would think that I hadn’t done enough to get out of the cycle.?
It was like a champagne cork popping, like fireworks in my mind. I laughed and cried hysterically for hours after that call, realising that I could simply let go of that thought now. And after an amazing and emotional chat with my mum that’s what I did.?
We all swim in the water of our minds, every second of the day. But you might not ever have stopped to look at it and listen to it.?
I’ll create the environment for you to actually see and hear the water, with thought-provoking questions and exercises.?
Together we will peel back the layers, until we find the little mind-nugget that’s behind it all.?
When you can see it, you can change it.?
Now you have a better idea of what it would be like to work with me, is it time for a chat??
Would you like to join my clients by valuing yourself, believing in yourself and backing yourself? Would you like to feel like you’re in control of your life? Would you like to stroll into your next role with confidence and certainty? Would you like to get a bit more joy out of life??
