What is an occupational rehabilitation consultant?

As an Occupational Rehabilitation Consultant, you are an independent Rehab Case manager offering comprehensive early intervention, injury prevention, and workplace rehabilitation services. Your objective is to support individuals in achieving optimal health, maintaining their current employment, returning to work, or starting new employment opportunities. Your caseload of injured workers will include individuals covered under compensable schemes, such as worker’s compensation and motor vehicle accident schemes.?

Am I qualified?

If you’re an AHPRA-registered OT, Physio, Psych, Osteo, ESSA-accredited EP or ASORC-accredited Rehabilitation Counsellor, your training and expertise make you an ideal candidate for the Occupational Rehabilitation Consulting industry.

What are the main responsibilities of the role?

• Manage a caseload of injured clients
• Develop workplace-based rehabilitation programs to achieve positive return-to-work outcomes
• Conduct Initial and Worksite Assessments
• Conduct Home Assessments
• Provide Rehabilitation counselling
• Complete and maintain necessary records
• Evaluate clients’ progress and prepare reports that detail progress
• Test and evaluate clients’ physical and mental abilities and analyse medical data to determine realistic rehabilitation goals
• Recommend changes in patients’ work or living environments, consistent with their needs and capabilities
• Liaise and work in consultation with referring agency staff, injured workers, employers, medical practitioners and allied health professionals
