Why child development

Why is it important for us – as adults and as a society – to focus on child development? Obviously, you can come up with dozens of arguments why this is a worthwhile cause.

But if you really boil it down, you end up with two main reasons: Prioritizing child development is important for the sake of the child. And for the sake of the world.

Whichever comes first, morally, is a complex if not impossible discussion. But at the end of the day, it is also practically irrelevant. Because the two reasons are intertwined and – one could argue – actually two sides of the same coin.

Child development has and will always be an admirable cause in itself. But it is also one of the most critical components in securing the survival and prosperity of the entire human race – and the animals and the plants that we share our little blue planet with.

With the earth being pushed further and further towards its physiological limits, the stakes are probably higher than they have ever been before. In this game, child development constitutes one of the most crucial tasks in the intermediate and long run.

Children may not be able to do anything to save the world now. But in 15, 20, 30 years from now they will. As they move into adulthood. Begin to work and live alongside us. And finally supersede us.

In just a few decades, the children of today will be running families, companies and nations. While we will be grand- and great-grandparents, whose power and influence will diminish month by month.

When those days come, we need to make sure that our kids are as well prepared as possible. And this we do by giving them the best possible environment for their development today.

So give your kids a happy childhood, with a lot of love and affection. Let them grow up as free and open-minded little humans. Teach them to ask questions and to think for themselves. And tell them that cooperation and helping is more important than winning and competing.

That′s how you raise strong, free and socially responsible individuals who will end up giving more to the world than they take away from it.
