Why ChatGPT Won't Make Marketing Easier
Jerry Potter
Burnout sucks. I help design high leverage Podcasts & YouTube Channels for online entrepreneurs that let them run their business in HALF the time.
The excitement around ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence services has skyrocketed.
This isn't surprising considering the tool grew to a million users in its first 5 days!
And while I love shortcuts, I'm leaning away from tools like this for creating content.
(If that made you want to end our relationship immediately, give me a moment to explain)
While A.I. has some amazing abilities, it is not going to create great content for us...
If we rewind my life a few years, I wanted to be a professional basketball player.
In middle school I actually saying out loud, "I'm going to be pissed if I don't grow to be at least 6-foot-2-inches (about 188cm)." ??
Spoiler in case I look taller online: I didn't make it to be that tall.
Now imagine if a special vitamin was released (for free) that allowed everyone to run, jump and shoot a basketball as well as Michael Jordan.
What would happen to professional basketball teams?
Athletic talent wouldn't matter anymore because everyone would have the same abilities, so they'd likely recruit and sign players based on their intellectual ability or attitude.
The ability required to perform at that level would be higher.
That's what has happened with content marketing in the last 90 days.
A free tool has been released that allows everyone to create good content.
So yes, you can lean into that tool and create a lot more content - but you may end up exactly where you are now.
Author Seth Godin summed it up really well:
"If your work (content) isn’t more useful or insightful or urgent than GPT can create in 12 seconds, don’t interrupt people with it."
Chat GPT and other AI tools are making what we used to do easier, which means our new work needs to be better.
Would love to know your thoughts on this!

PS - Go ahead and tag your friends that are most excited about Chat GPT - I can take it. ??

2 年I see people using ChatGPT to knock out that repetitive content and give people back thier time for more important things. For example, in real estate, Realtors have "just sold" or "client testimonial" social media posts. They make the home graphic, copy the review from Google, but they still need text to accompany the post. ChatGPT can take repetitive text like "let me help you sell your next home" or "thank you for the wonderful review" and give it a little oomph! The copy is simple, it checks a box of showing success as a Realtor, and now you're not spending as much time thinking of new ways to say the same thing.

Stay humble...work hard.
2 年Folks should always ask theirselves the question, "Yeah, but where is it going?" If you extract the human soul at the other end of anything, then what do you have left? You know the answer...nothing? Why would anyone be excited about that? Why would anyone be excited about interacting with something that wasn't human? And, I personally wouldn't do business with the biggest theft of human intellectual property in history. All that data put into the machine came from somewhere, better yet, someone.
