Why is ChatGPT so hot?/ Why is ChatGPT going on the fire?/ Why is ChatGPT a phenomenon?

1. How come it’s so hot?

From my point of view, there are the following reasons:

First, it “inherits” GPT-3’s essence. Having inherited a model with up to 175 billion parameters has provided ChatGPT with a significant advantage in its ability to generate natural-sounding language.

Second, OpenAI was “reckless” in commercializing a chatbot even industry insiders regarded as a “temporary solution” to a problem. Why is it called “reckless”? Because the tech giants, especially Google, the originator of the Transformer architecture, have their own chatbots. However, they did not announce it due to concerns about harmful content and the accuracy of the information that their chatbot could generate.

Third, it is due to the media factor. Do you recognize the frequent appearance of ChatGPT articles in newspapers? And since ChatGPT became popular, a number of memes were born, making it difficult for me to distinguish between the actual chat and Photoshop creations. So, if you’re curious, you’ll have to find out, and in general, this chatbot will go viral.

2. Tech giants are preparing to release their own chatbots

Google’s Chatbot Bard (“inherited” from LaMDA, also an LLM developed by Google) has been strongly evolving and expanding. At the same time, Baidu announced plans to develop a chatbot named Ernie Bot or Bing Chat. Well, the great chatbot war is about to explode. Thus, AI is becoming increasingly accessible to everyone.

This is excellent news, as it indicates that the integration of AI into products is becoming simpler. As a result, there will be a boom of high-quality AI products and trustworthy content in the near future.

3. ChatGPT and Google Search

Another aspect that I want to express is that many people consider ChatGPT to be a replacement for Google Search. Obviously, don’t you feel excited when the information we seek is “answered” promptly by a chatbot that can communicate quite naturally like a friend?

However, it should be clear that Google Search will assist us in self-selecting information when we learn about something. When we use ChatGPT to answer questions, we rarely double-check the information because we have a strong belief that “this AI is always right” and a chatbot that can converse like a normal person and directly provide information will make us “lazier”.

This is very dangerous, because the developers themselves warn that the information given by ChatGPT may be wrong, and one shouldn’t depend on it too much, especially since many students currently use this tool to cheat on exams, essays, etc.

4. Weaknesses of ChatGPT

Everyone is aware of this chatbot’s strengths, so let’s now discuss its weaknesses.

From OpenAI blog post

The first is that this chatbot can provide false information. Mira Murati, CTO of OpenAI and “female general” behind ChatGPT’s success, admitted this. According to her, because the technology is based on RLHF (Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback), users can provide false information to the chatbot, causing it to acquire false information.

Second, ChatGPT is still a Weak AI (abbreviated as ANI), which is an AI capable of conducting a specific task. This type of AI model will simulate a certain human behavior using pre-designed models and will learn from a large data set. Therefore, updating information in real-time to train the model is a big obstacle. The data source used to train this chatbot has just been updated until 2021, so many questions do not have answers or the answers may not be accurate.

The third concern is information security. Businesses that want to use ChatGPT must provide information to this chatbot (still RLHF), so no one wants their company’s sensitive information made public.

And there are a number of other flaws, as ChatGPT currently lacks the capacity to think independently, contrary to popular relief.
