Why Changing Your Beliefs is the #1 Human Soft Skill for Success

Growing up on what most people called the wrong side of the tracks I dreamed of becoming a Broadway dancer.

?As a young girl I would write, produce and sell tickets to the opening night of my very own show. My parents would take their seats in the front row of our living room, enthusiastically cheering me on.

I was not restricted by adult limitations, or boundaries to the size or achievability of my dreams. My dreams were never dashed by details of the HOW…you know the how they would come true. I just believed.

What did you believe?

Do you look back with longing wishing you could escape the reality of adulthood for the innocence of the belief you had in yourself as a child?

?And does it really have to be this way?

Is it the natural progression of age that robs of us of our ability to dream?

I say no!

Dr. Bruce Lipton explains that our formative years, the initial six are spent in a hypnotic trance, shape our perceptions and beliefs about who we are, what we’re capable of and how to approach success in the world we live in.

?The catch? We absorb these influences before developing the critical thinking skills needed to question if they support us to RISE to our greatest potential.

?School becomes a breeding ground for false beliefs, imprinting notions like "I'm good at math but can't read," or "I'm a troublemaker."

And, of course, we inherit a belief about the "right path" to success.

?The twist in my story? I fell from my perceived right path at sixteen, becoming a teenage mom, dropping out of high school, and leaping into a tumultuous marriage before I was even old enough to vote.

?Do you believe you are on the right path?

?Like all humans as we enter adulthood, I carried a backpack overflowing with mostly false beliefs, determining who I was and what I could achieve.

?At the top of my backpack floated three beliefs that stifled my dreams for decades:

1.???????? My dad's advice to work hard and everything will be okay left me waiting for ‘other’ people to notice my hard work and reward me rather than actively pursuing what I had earned and deserved.

2.???????? Believing I wasn't as smart as others due to dropping out of high school kept me silent, afraid to speak out or stand up for what I wanted.

3.???????? Falling off my right path led to a self-imposed life sentence at 16, a belief that I would live a life without success so what was the point in going after my dreams because it wouldn’t work out for me anyway?

Sound Familiar?

This backpack of beliefs dictated my decisions, steering me toward actions that kept me playing small and settling for less than my true worth.

?What’s In Your Backpack?

Your beliefs drive your thinking and your thinking drives your actions. If you want to change, if you want to succeed it always starts with a change in what you believe.

So, what is a belief?

It's merely an idea, a thought, or a statement accepted as true, often in our childhood when we lacked the ability to decide if these beliefs supported our highest potential.

But here's the liberating truth: you can decide that these beliefs are NOT true, that your dreams are not lost to a distant childhood, and possibility is far from hopeless.

Start here.....

1.???? Become a Belief Detective- You don’t need to spend years digging up your past or reliving painful experiences to identify the beliefs that are holding you back.

I used to believe that to be true however now that I have lived longer than I have left to live on this planet I can confidently tell you…. life goes by fast don’t waste time feeling bad.

2.???? The Emotional Rollercoaster-The simplest and fastest way to identify those sneaky hidden beliefs is by how you feel. When one minute you’re dancing on the streets and the next minute you feel like a failure who could never achieve your goals…. STOP for just one moment and pay attention to what you were thinking. What you believe drives what you think.

?My belief that I wasn’t as smart as other people would have me doubt my ability to learn how to read financials so I was afraid to be in a more senior role. All NOT TRUE by the way just a belief.

3.???? The ONE Belief Question-Okay what can you do? When you notice a belief, you only have to ask yourself this one question….

Does this belief serve me to rise to my greatest potential?

If the answer is no DELETE it.

Imagine this belief is a piece of paper that you will scrunch (is that a word) up into a small ball and toss into the trash can on your computer and see yourself hit that final delete button you know the one where you can never recover it again. Delete It So You Don’t Repeat It

This begins the process to train your brain!

If you overlook the human soft skill of your beliefs, you are missing out on the foundation of what drives us as human beings for the good and the bad.

Everything I teach no matter the delivery method starts with resetting beliefs even for companies who have beliefs too.
