"Why can't I create the changes I want?"

"Why can't I create the changes I want?"

I was asked this on Friday by a successful business owner.

She wanted faster growth in her business and more time for travelling.

She said she'd tried everything and was frustrated to say the least.

Yet the irony is, the answer to the question is so simple.

So simple we're very likely to reject it.

And rejecting simplicity is one ‘reason’ so many people become frustrated or stuck.

Yet this is how simple it really is...

The mind filters out and the intellect is swift to reject or deny what we don’t believe.

So, to experience whatever changes we now want, it's all about being willing to mentally accept something new….

BEFORE we have the sensory evidence or any proof or evidence for why we should.

And for the rational, logical, intellectual, reasoning mind, this just doesn’t feel safe before it’s 'sense-able'.

For the rational, reasoning mind, the game is one of: "show me the proof it's safe to accept this idea and then maybe I'll accept it".

For the rational, reasoning mind, the game is one of thinking to the desired outcome, not from it.

But without our prior acceptance, whilst we may make "reason-able" progress over time, the familiar patterns typically persist and the scale and speed of changes we most want can't happen.

Meanwhile, science continues to confirm for the doubting intellect what mystics and spiritual teachers have known and taught for Millennia.

Which is that Consciousness is all there is and that what we perceive with our 'senses' is an ever-moving, 3 dimensional, holographic, mental projection.

That our experiences are literally the mental projections of our thinking.

Reflections of our thoughts, beliefs, assumptions and expectations.

Of what we're accepting to be true about ourself, others and the world.

Yet, despite having the science to satisfy the intellect, this is undoubtedly still a stretch to accept - especially if we don't understand what the mind is and how it works.

But stretch or otherwise, it's how it is anyway.

As with gravity, we can't see it, hear it, taste it, touch it or smell it and we may not understand it but we're nonetheless affected by it and there are consequences for overlooking it!

And the same is true for our thinking.

What's more obvious however - or at least much easier to grasp - is the realisation that our life is only ever now.

That the past only ever exists as a thought now and the future is always a thought now too.

Remembering, imagining, thinking and perceiving are always now.

So, if we’re “not creating the changes we want”, the 'reason' is simply this...

We’re now giving more validity, solidity and reality to and believing more in our remembered past and who we now believe we were than we're now giving to our imagined future and the version of ourself we now wish to experience.

And overly simple as it may appear to be, that’s it.

So, to create the shifts we now desire to experience, it's simply about bringing our awareness to and accepting these shifts now.

There's no other way.

And what’s great about this is we’re free to do this any 'time' (now) we may choose.

We’ve just got to be willing to no longer use the remembered past or the evidence of our senses to determine our thinking.

And ultimately, we must be willing to accept it's as simple as it truly is.

Which may of course be unacceptable for the intellectual, reasoning, linear mind and what we now believe in but thankfully, none of them are in charge... we are!

And we are always free right now to imagine, choose and accept whatever it is we desire and to live as we’d now love to.

We can accept it's hard work and takes a long time or we can accept it's easy, quick and effortless but either way, the mind will provide experience to prove we're right.

Great post Rob. I ‘feel’ this to be so true and deep down I know it to be true. Frighteningly so. But relinquishing your past means dissolving every anchor point and experience which make up identity. Setting yourself completely adrift on the sea of potential takes more courage than I can muster just now. But I’ll get there. That’s why it’s called a practice of meditation right? ??
