Yesterday I was talking to one of my?#founder
?friends/customers and he was disappointed that?#sales
?candidates are not serious about the?#assessment
?that we give them as a part of the interview.
Based on my 15 months of experience with sales talents I have jotted down a few points on why many sales talents are not serious about their assessments/interviews. However, as a hiring team, we too need to accommodate and adapt to the changing talent market.
- Multiple job offers:?In today's competitive job market, sales candidates are having multiple?#joboffers
.
- Early-stage startups have not yet created a brand to entice rockstar sales talent.
- Lack of understanding of the sales process:?Some candidates may not fully understand what the sales job entails or how the assessment they are being given relates to their ability to perform well in the role.
- Not aware of sales career growth.
- Fear of rejection:?Sales is a highly competitive field where rejection is common, and some candidates may fear failure or rejection, leading them to not take the interview seriously.
- Perception of sales jobs:?Some candidates may view sales positions as unattractive, leading them to not take the interview seriously.
- Time constraints:?Most sales professionals are hard-working and busy meeting their daily targets. Candidates may have limited time to prepare for the interview or complete the assessment.
- Overconfidence:?Some candidates may believe that they are experienced or skilled enough to easily get the sales job, leading them to not prepare adequately or take the interview seriously.
- Lack of interest:?Candidates may apply to sales jobs without having a genuine interest in the field, which could lead to a lack of motivation to perform well in the interview.
- Lack of confidence:?Some candidates may lack confidence in their ability to succeed in a sales role.
- Limited information about the company or product:?Candidates may not have enough information about the company or product they are interviewing for, leading them to not take the interview seriously.
- Companies need to communicate the?importance of the assessment?and provide candidates with enough information about the role, the company, and the product to ensure that they take the interview seriously. Additionally, the assessment should be designed to reflect the skills and competencies required for the sales role accurately.
Overall, candidates need to take all job interviews seriously, regardless of the position or their personal preferences. A positive attitude and preparedness can increase the chances of success in any interview. Seek help, read, and learn about the industry, job, role, and responsibility. Follow?Interview Cracker?
