Why Business Owners Struggle.....

Helping Fitness & Sports Performance Business Owners Scale, Optimize, & Build Wealth
Most of us open our own business with the belief of what’s possible.
We believe that we can have a powerful impact on clients and the results that they get.
We think that if we control everything that’s going on as business owners rather than as employees, we’ll be more consistently able to help our clients achieve their goals.
The second belief is that we can earn more income.
As a business owner, we’ll be in control of our own financial destiny.
And the third belief is that as a business owner, we’ll be in control of our own schedule so we’ll have more freedom or time flexibility to enjoy all facets of our life.
But the reality is that about 98% of small business owners aren’t achieving even two out of three of these beliefs that inspired them to go into business in the first place.
In fact, many of them are struggling financially and barely getting by. Then, to make it even worse, they’re often tired or burned out too.
So, why is this the case for so many coaches?
Here are 3 reasons…
1. Erratic & Ineffective Marketing
The first reason is most businesses struggle is pretty simple.
They don’t embrace marketing. It’s something they tolerate.
Maybe they market when they run a challenge or things get slow and the rest of the time they wait around for ‘word of mouth.’
Or perhaps they just borrow what everyone else is doing or ‘cut and paste’...and do nothing to really establish their own unique brand.
Either way, they’re not getting enough of the right prospects to fuel sustainable growth.
2. Inconsistent or Non-Existent Follow Up
Struggling business owners almost always are dropping the ball on follow up.
Maybe it’s writing off a prospect as a ‘tire kicker’ if they don’t join within 48 hours and moving on to the next prospect.
Perhaps it’s only following up with a hard sell and doing nothing to build a relationship or position themselves as a trusted authority in the eyes of their prospective client.
Or it could be that those are just woefully inconsistent...so the prospect never really feels like they get to know the business and how it can help.
Imagine that you’re filling a bucket with prospects...inconsistent or non-existent follow up is the equivalent of having nothing but holes in the bottom of that bucket.
It’s impossible to ever fill up a bucket...or a gym...with that approach.
3. A Business That’s Not Scalable
When most business owners get started, they do everything.

They’re basically self-employed, with no real systems or leverage.
But with growth, more things get added to their plate and they run out of hours to do it all.
Sure, for the hours they are training, they’re paid pretty well...but for those hours they're cleaning the restrooms or doing administrative work, they’re performing tasks that they could pay someone else to do for a fraction of their hourly training rate.
And when they want to step away from the gym for a vacation…or even a sick day...it’s done at the risk of alienating clients or earning nothing for the time they are gone.
Before long, even if that business owner is making a decent living and having a meaningful impact on the clients they serve...they get tired, frustrated and burned out.
And even if they do hire someone, they either don’t have systems for that new hire to follow or they are so ready for a break, they do a half-hearted job onboarding the new employee...setting them up to struggle and ultimately leading to turnover.
After 18 years of business coaching, almost all struggling businesses I’ve seen can trace their frustration back to one or more of those problems.
But fortunately, there is another approach.
You can develop and deploy marketing that consistently attracts the right prospects.
You can follow up in a way that magnetically pulls those ‘right prospects’ into your gym to become clients.
And you can create a systematic & scalable business that allows you to play your best role...and ultimately allows you to have the impact, income and freedom that inspired you to go into business in the first place.
But it requires making the decision to do those things and following through so your business continues to operate at that level.
If you’re ready to make that decision and that commitment...and you’d like my help, reply and put ‘Ready’ in the subject line and we’ll discuss.
Dedicated to Your Success,
Pat
