Why the built environment needs more diversity?
Hey,
"I’m not an architect or an engineer...
but I am a built environment marketing consultant who works with many of them. And it’s something I’ve done for over 22 years+ so yes I do know my stuff...."
That’s how I started my talk at the Women in Architecture UK “Changing the Face of Architecture” event a few weeks back.
The architecture industry really does need to change to reflect society better.?And do this by?embracing more diverse voices (women, people of colour, etc) and diversity of skills and experiences in and around the profession.
The rest of this email is chocca block full of new, and?useful resources that will help you do better. Do let me know if any of them help you.?
Enjoy,
Ayo

1 年Shame DEI is still just considered a “nice to have”…
Chartered Architect / Managing Director at KR.eativ: Architects Ltd
1 年The architect's profession welcomes a 'diverse' membership. However, if those who would like to join it do want to spend upwards of 7 years to above masters degree level (more than the NVQ level 7 it is assigned to) to earn a salary about a third of an equivalent medical or legal professional, and only a few are likely to earn more than a lorry or train driver, then what is there to encourage them? Architecture is rarely taught in schools, appreciation of the built environment is rarely taught. Architecture is one of the most rewarding STEAM subjects and ignored by schoolchildren, their parents, their teachers, and government.
