Why Books Aren't Always the Best Option for Learning ??

Books are a great source of learning. You can learn in just a couple of days of reading what took brilliant people years to find out (sort of). However, books are not perfect.

When Books Fall Short ??

I think they are not your best option in mainly one case. That is, reading about something that interests you but is not related to your work or study and is not a self-help book. For example, although I like Physics and history reading a 400-page book on Genghis Khan or string theory is not the best use of my time. Additionally, fiction books can often feel like transcribed movies, providing little to no added value.

Alternative Options for Learning ????

That being said, there are still great ways to learn about these topics. Videos and podcasts are fantastic alternatives. My Youtube homepage, for example, is always full of many interesting videos about Economics, Physics, Math, History, Business, Finance, Philosophy and others. They give me enough information to have meaningful conversations with experts.

Books are Still Valuable ??

Does that mean that books are old school? Not according to my first 2 sentences. I always persuade my family/friends/acquaintances to regularly read books if they do not already. I myself have finished a couple of books in the last couple of months like Atomic Habits, Blitzscaling and Thinking Fast and Slow

Conclusion ??

To summarize, videos/podcasts take you one inch deep and a mile wide. Books take you one inch wide and a mile deep. Furthermore, book summaries are great to filter out books you do not find interesting enough before even starting reading them

P.S. This was my personal opinion. What motivated me to write it is that I talked with many people who were thinking youtube is only for entertainment and book summaries are only for people who are too lazy to read.?

What do you think? What books do you recommend? What youtube channels and podcasts do you watch/listen to?

#books ?? #reading ?? #personaldevelopment ?? #professionaldevelopment ?? #videolearning ?? #podcastlearning ?? #booksummaries ?? #selfimprovement ?? #lifelonglearning ?? #elearning ??
