I was re-reading Dale Carnegie’s 1936 landmark publication ‘How to Win Friends and Influence People’, and was reminded of his relevant quote ;
“Inaction breeds doubt and fear . Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear ,do not sit at home and think about it. Go and out and get busy”
This act of getting busy and making things happen is central to developing your mental toughness .
Ticking things off and making progress in situations and on projects or in relationships provides a sense of satisfaction.
This may be limited and fleeting but do the same again tomorrow, and the day after ,and you begin to build an inner sense of resolve and determination that you want to continue the process. Doing so , with constant refinement and improvement ,and you develop real forward momentum.
You feel like you are on the way to somewhere and mentally this builds confidence and self-belief which is the fuel of encouragement to keep going still further.
Quite often you’ll experience resistance and setbacks that you need to overcome ,sometimes digging deep and driving through.
Consistently completing a routine of successful action helps build your self-belief which is a component of your mental strength ,what we call mental toughness .
Go out and get busy !

3 年So true. What a great book. Better known than Dale’s other great book; How to Stop Worrying and Start Living. Interesting reading for me as a 16 year old destined to be a psychologist.
Excellent book, I think it was the first business book I ever read on recommendation of my manager in my first job.
