Why balance doesn't actually work. And what to do about it.

In physics, "balance" refers to a state where all the forces acting on an object are equal and opposite, resulting in a stable condition where the object is not accelerating.
As humans, we spend a lot of time and energy trying to get things to balance; work/ life balance, balancing priorities, balancing time and money. You get the point.
If we are not okay with balance (a stable condition that is not accelerating), then what are we after?
ALIGNMENT.
Rather than constantly looking to balance, look to align. Align with what? Your identity, purpose and values. These are the anchor. Who you are and what you want. Make decisions about your time, attention, and resources that are aligned with who you are and what you say you want.
It's the same in business. When we are building a team, are only looking for a balance of skills and characteristics (which is not entirely a bad thing)? Could we focus more on alignment? Meaning, look for, identify, and bring people into our teams that are aligned. People that are aligned with our purpose and values. People that are aligned with the way we treat people. And people who are aligned with our priorities for time and attention.
I recently co-founded a company called HireAligned. It takes the guess work out of culture, values, and how people fit to those. You can check it out at hirealigned.com.
Forget trying to balance everything.
Live aligned.
Alignment is the way.
Today is the day!
You got this,
