Why authenticity trumps "quality" when it comes to content

When you use a bunch of filler words and try to write copy that makes you sound "intelligent", often times people lose interest before they even get to the good stuff because it's not real. It's reading a text book back in high school. Another example is listening to speech where someone is reading from a script vs. when they're speaking from the heart. Nobody wants to read a textbook. Nobody wants to hear your scripted speech. Humans want emotion. They want originality.

People see right through fluff.

However, when you just share a story, people immediately get drawn into that story. They start wondering - what happen's next? How's it going to end? What lesson are they going to get out of it? When you use short sentences, simple words and get straight to the point - readers are more likely to get drawn to your piece.

It's a bit counter-intuitive.

The more time and effort you put into "polishing" your piece, the less people want to consume it. Think fast, write from the heart and leave your audience feeling like they learned something valuable.
