Why Aren’t You Using The Bookmarks Bar?

Why Aren’t You Using The Bookmarks Bar?

Wouldn’t it be great if you could simply click a button on your screen and be transported to each of your favorite websites as if you were changing channels on a remote control?

You can.

You can quickly and easily put your favorite websites on the bookmarks bar.

Below are a few simple steps for configuring the bookmarks bar (also called the “favorites bar”) for Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari.

And, if the name of the bookmark/favorite is too long, just right-click the name on the bookmarks/favorites bar and select Edit…

Then, change the name to anything you prefer.

Google Chrome

  1. Go to your favorite website.

  2. Show the bookmarks bar by clicking the menu icon () in the top-right corner, and then select Bookmarks > Show bookmarks bar.

  3. Directly under the address bar you should now see an area where you can add bookmarks.

  4. To the left of the website’s URL is a small paper or lock icon.  Just drag that icon down to the bookmarks bar.  Done!

Internet Explorer

When using Internet Explorer, Microsoft refers to “favorites” instead of “bookmarks”.

  1. Go to your favorite website.

  2. Press Alt-V for the View menu.

  3. Select Toolbars > Favorites bar.

  4. Directly under the address bar you should now see an area where you can add favorites.

  5. To the left of the website’s URL there is an icon.  Just drag that icon down to the favorites bar.  Done!

Firefox

  2. Show the bookmarks bar by clicking the menu icon () in the top-right corner, and then select + Customize.

  3. On the bottom-left click Show / Hide Toolbars.

  4. Select Bookmarks Toolbar.

  5. On the bottom-right click Exit Customize.

  6. Directly under the address bar you should now see an area where you can add bookmarks.

  7. To the left of the website’s URL there is an icon.  Just drag that icon down to the bookmarks toolbar.  Done!

Safari

When using Safari, Apple refers to “favorites” instead of “bookmarks”.

  1. Go to your favorite website.

  2. Show the favorites bar by clicking the menu View > Show Favorites Bar.

  3. Directly under the address bar you should now see an area where you can add favorites.

  4. Place your mouse over the website’s URL and drag it down to the favorites bar.

  5. Type a short name for the website and then press Enter.  Done!
