Why did I create this newsletter?

Too many people have great ideas and our brains seem to always be coming up with the next big thing. We think, think, think and never actually get around to doing it. Those days are over for me and it starts today writing this newsletter.

Am I a writer? Nope. Have I created a multi-million dollar corporation? Nope. Am I a CEO? Nope. (Not yet.) I am like many of you reading this, a valuable asset to my company and most importantly an irreplaceable member of my family. I am leading a sales team that is in the trenches growing our business. I find motivation, leadership, and sales strategies in some of the simplest daily activities. I have had the privilege of sharing these within our organization and it's time to share them with others.

I want to help you be a leader, motivator, and successful business person. Read my 5 min weekly articles for action items on how to be better. Be a person driven to be a better employee, parent, friend, and most importantly the best version of yourself. We all have the ability to get better every day. The ones that DO IT will achieve the life they've always dreamed about.

Why appreciation will help your career.

You may ask, "What does appreciation have to do with success, motivation, winning?" The truth is none of us do this alone. You find me a successful person and I will point out the individuals that helped them get there. We all have those who are an important part of our story. It could be a spouse, parents, co-workers, customers, suppliers, professors, or even a neighbor. I want you to start your foundation of success on appreciation. Please don't confuse help from others as the ticket to success. You have to put in the work. You have to push a little bit harder than everyone else. Success in this world isn't "easy" but genuinely appreciating those that help you along the way is a great place to start.

In sales, we win and we lose. The good ones win more than lose, but the valuable learnings happen when we lose. Your customer did not let you down. You let your customer down. You know your product/service would greatly benefit your customer, but for one reason or another, you were unable to convey that to them. When you lose, lose with grace. When an opportunity is officially dead, I always tell the customer that I appreciate them. Why? That customer gave me the opportunity to do my job and gave me a chance, for that I am grateful. You never know when this individual will be a potential client again. Appreciate the customer for the opportunity they gave you because there is a very good chance you will get another shot in the future, and that time you will hit it out of the park.

The Janitor - How a small act of gratitude made a major impact on a Janitor and the company she worked for.

Sally worked as a janitor in a company for many years. Very few jobs within any corporation are as tough as a janitor or as we call it at Big Ass Fans, Clean Living Specialist. Sally's company had just been acquired and new ownership was coming in. On the first day in the office, the new owner wrote personal "I appreciate you" letters to each employee in the company and when Sally received her letter she burst into tears. What the new owner didn't realize is for the first time in over 20 years, Sally had just received her first "Thank You" from the company. What the new owner also didn't realize is Sally thought the ownership change would be a bad move for her and be a good time to quit and was planning on quitting the very next day. Sally didn't quit that next day, all because an executive in her company took the time to appreciate her and her hard work. A very simple act made a major impact on Sally and the company she worked for.

"Thank you" or "I appreciate you"

Stop saying "thank you" and start saying "I appreciate you" to the ones that matter. It's personal, it's not something society has normalized as a response. An example of this is "My Pleasure" from Chick-Fil-A. We remember this because it has not been normalized as a response. "I appreciate you" is the simplest of words and in some cases, it's the hardest to say. Have the courage to say "I Appreciate You" to the ones that matter.
