In today’s competitive job market, applying for jobs online has become the norm.
Right now, many job seekers are finding this approach often leads to frustration and disappointment. The sheer volume of applications means that your resume can easily get lost in the shuffle. If you're tired of endlessly submitting applications and never hearing back, it’s time to consider an alternative strategy: backchanneling.
The Online Job Application Black Hole
When you apply for a job online, your application typically goes through an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) before it even reaches a human eye. Moreover, popular job postings can receive hundreds, if not thousands, of applications.

Instead of submitting your application into the digital abyss, you use connections to gain insider access to job opportunities. This might mean reaching out to a friend who works at the company, connecting with someone in a relevant professional group, or even engaging with the company’s content on social media to build a relationship.
By establishing these direct connections, you can present yourself as more than just another applicant. You have the opportunity to demonstrate your enthusiasm for the role and the value you can bring to the company. This personalized approach can significantly increase your chances of getting noticed and landing an interview.
