WHY THIS APP?

WHY THIS APP?

I have been trying to ignore this app since long. Until, recently when Prime Minister talked about it in his recent National address. It was our 3rd task. Like other two, I enthusiastically installed app & looked for reasons why I was supposed to do so.

However, unlike previous two, I found some real tech reasons.

'Aarogya Setu' is derived from Sanskrit meaning 'Bridge of Health'.

We (should) know the basic awareness thing. Let me tell you how it's much more than that.

And, why Prime Minister himself is spreading awareness about it? ( Please. I ain't talking about privacy issues or potential misuse of data here.)

On first installation, app asks you for symptoms like if you have a cough, fever, trouble breathing, etc.

If not (which I really hope for you) you will be shown in Green Zone.

(Clicking on this image takes you to App store to download app conveniently)

The app asks for permission to keep bluetooth and location services on.

Wherever you go (please Don't, unless neccesary) this app keeps communicating with nearby devices via bluetooth & GPS signals.

When you come in contact (which means within 6 ft proximity) with a normal guy/girl (see, gender equality) it stays green.

But, if that guy/girl happens to be corona positive for some reason after, say 10 days, the app will alert you immediately.

Now, your green color will change to orange or yellow.

That is, 10 days ago, s/he might had a hidden infection. Anyways, we have significant asymptomatic (without visible symptoms) cases of COVID-19.

Not only you, people who came in your contact would be notified too.

It will notify you whenever you are close (again 6 feet) to someone in orange or yellow zone. It also helps checking for matching and synonyms suggest further plan of action which you might (should) already know.

With everyone's real time location data, Government of India can track their movement more efficiently. So, it's easier to track Corona spread.

Hence, We can break the chain & fight against Corona.

Isn't that great?

Well, yes.

If this information gathered by various sources is true.

(Clicking on this image takes you to Play store to download app directly)

Stating that, I assure you I've tried my best to gather information & verify facts.

However, I welcome, all professionals & students to come out if you have any suggestions or feedback, especially if something's wrong or suspicious. I'll be glad to address them.

Share if you find it worthy enough which you probably did (otherwise you won't be reading these lines).

Stay safe. Take Care.

Thanks & Regards,

Saad Jamal

It's definitely a good initiative. However, I feel the crux of this app is 'willingness' to share personal health information, which I feel not a lot of people would be pro towards. A person, inspite of having symptoms, would rather share it with a doctor than download the app and make it publicly available. The app should be integrated with healthcare database systems and the input for symptoms/recorded cases should come from that end is what I feel.

?Saad Jamal? recently I downloaded it. It's really a good and crucial app. I like the feature how they collect the data and inform us. About having a chance of Corona, people near by you and you can easy check by yourself.
