Why Be Any Other Way?

Why Be Any Other Way?

Integrity, defined as the adherence to moral and ethical principles, has been a guiding force in my life. A mentor once imparted a profound truth to me: without integrity, one’s existence lacks substance. This principle became a part of who I am, much like a cherished garment that one wears with pride.

As a child, I once lied to shield my brother, believing I was acting with integrity by keeping a promise. Yet, I was too young to grasp the complexity of such moral dilemmas. The harsh punishment I received for this lie left a deep impression, shaping my acute sensitivity to any insinuations against my integrity. Each day, I strive to be a paragon of integrity, fully aware of my human imperfections. This is where humility enters the picture.

Humility is a word that sings. Its very letters dance on the page, and its embodiment is even more beautiful. My partner, Scott, personifies humility, uplifting those around him with this virtue. Our dogs, Siddee and Hubbie, also exhibit humility, with Hubbie often taking the lead.

In my professional life, I was fortunate to begin my career amidst a C-Suite team that exemplified integrity and humility. Their transparent and selfless leadership, often sacrificing personal gain for the welfare of employees, was a beacon of true leadership. It wasn’t until I encountered an executive who feigned integrity that I realized the rarity of genuine leadership. This individual’s manipulative and fear-driven approach was a stark contrast to the values I held dear.

Now, leading my own agency, I’ve chosen to work with clients who embody these core values of Integrity+Humility. I am grateful every day for their trust in me to represent their goodwill. In a recent interaction with a client, their gracious response to a vendor situation reminded me of the naturalness of integrity and humility. Indeed, there is no other way to be.
