Why another newsletter? And why from me?
Public launch of the NIL Blitz, authored by Braly Keller

Why another newsletter? And why from me?

Trying out something new to give a little light to the #NIL industry.

For context, in January 2023 I began sharing a weekly "NIL Blitz" in the Opendorse intranet. This wasn't the first time I began sharing NIL insights/reports to the company - I do this each week in our company Standup meetings - it was more or less a formal, consistent way to ensure my coworkers across all departments could stay up to date with the most relevant news specific to our industry. Over the past 8 months, I've found the weekly Blitzes to be both a habitual "anchoring" for my work week as well as a great editorial exercise.

Why does that matter?

I've decided to bring the Blitz to LinkedIn!

That means you as a reader will have the same chance to keep up with industry as the great folks at Opendorse! Pretty cool, huh?

I'm not in the journalism world, nor do I want to be in the business of regurgitating the same old news. I will be adding personal takes on each bit of news, as well as providing context that could only come to life through my day-to-day work.

(Of note - there will be occasions where I redact information that went in the Opendorse-specific NIL Blitz that will not be for public consumption. Nevertheless, I plan to share everything I can with you because I think that's what makes our industry stronger. NIL Blitz content is not meant to represent views of the company.)

What makes my perspective any different from others?

I'm glad you asked! This is LinkedIn, so you can read up on my past experiences if you'd like, but highlights include:

  • Service as Opendorse's resident NIL expert, a job that includes meeting weekly with an average of 15 schools, collectives and business partners
  • Compliance/Policy foundation set from experiences on various NCAA committees, including the NIL Oversight Group
  • Experience on-campus as the NIL Coordinator at the University of Nebraska, beginning July 2021
  • I have a math teaching license and I need an outlet for not having a whiteboard, so expect some doodles

All in all, I hope you find the weekly Blitzes to be useful for your work (or you at least find the doodles to be entertaining). The beauty of an online format is that you can always reach me via DMs. So please don't hesitate to holler if you have questions!

Sincere thank you to Elizabeth Wyman + Sam Weber for the support in kicking this off, along with Blake Schaben for the sweet graphic! (If you don't end up subscribing I think I will be mildly concerned about the viability of this newsletter lol.)
