Why am I sharing on LinkedIn as a Gastroenterologist ???

@dr.dooreck

I am being asked the same question over and over on why I am “taking time from my busy day to post on LinkedIn and social media.”

Why "Lunch ?? with @dr.dooreck” on LinkedIn?

Honestly, the reason why I chose Gastroenterology as a subspecialty was the fact that quality of life can be so dramatically derailed by stomach ailments like pain, diarrhea, and bloating.

I felt helping people address these complaints could really impact people in a positive way.

?? Think of trying to date on a Saturday night if you have colitis with urgency—as a way to describe some of the symptoms very softly and non-graphically. ;-)

It took me 17 years ?? from starting college at Stony Brook to finish my training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Miami. I studied in cities such as New York, Cambridge/Boston, and Tel Aviv along that way. I have been in private practice since 2005. That is a lot of acquired experience to potentially share.

It is OK sometimes just to “give, give, give.”

It became clear to me—sticking to my social media platform—focused on Colorectal Cancer screening ?? and nutrition ?? that the power of using this platform can truly help people and even save lives.

Why LinkedIn?

Sharing on LinkedIn just expands my reach so dramatically in the ability to pass on ??% FREE information that I am experienced in and can help people even in the smallest way.

I started on LinkedIn only after watching "from the sidelines" Amy Perkins, and then actually speaking ?? to Joy Mcadams, Shaneé Moret, Belinda Aramide, Jaime Cohen, Chantel Soumis, and Berel Solomon.

Maybe I overthought it? But I wanted to understand what LinkedIn "was about." If I was going in, I was going "all in."

So I went "all in" including the "reboot" of #LinkedInLocalMiami ?? in 2020.

#ShaySavesLives ??

I met Shay ?? Rowbottom through Richard Moore and Entrepreneur Business Live in September 2019.

I watched her evolving platform shift—one of the focuses—to "healing." ?? It became clearer to me of the true, meaningful power of LinkedIn.

Months later I told Shay; “You and I are going to save lives.” Followed by; “Seriously.” ??

You can see that post here.

Here are some thoughts ?? from a Gastroenterologist ?? on LinkedIn.

You don't need to answer me, comment on it, or even post it. Answer to yourself.

Brian, thanks for sharing!

I know first hand that my mental health is connected to my gut. I had a crisis in 2017 and as a result lost 65 lbs. I looked terrible- like a bag of skin. Now, I avoid hidden soy and powered skim at all costs. I can tell immediately if I've consumed some. It can take a week to get back to normal. It's so weird how when I'm feeling good, it seems impossible to get sick. Mental and Physical Health go hand in hand.

Thank you, Brian Dooreck, MD, for making a positive difference. I believe that anyone who has something valuable to share can reach more people on social media than in any other way. I also prefer LinkedIn, which is where I share my advice.

This is a great evergreen article for your posting on LinkedIn. Thanks for sharing this. I have a similar article to this on my profile called, "Why a Success Incubator." Looks like you have the right approach to LinkedIn and you've made some powerful connections that have probably helped you with the expansion of your message. It's one things to be passionate about what you do, but it's a whole different things to command an audience around it.
