Why Am I The #1 IT VAR ?
Jon Manley

There is a reason I am considered the absolute best technology VAR by many IT Managers and Purchasing folks across the country.
You might not like that I say that, how dare I say I am better than everyone else.
To be very clear, I am not the one who said it, this praise comes from my customers, and I focus my life into earning and surpassing their praise.
IN actuality, there are 5 specific reasons which have built my success, all of which I will share with you, so you can hopefully emulate and grow your own career as I have done.
None of these reasons are ground-breaking, or revolutionary. As a matter of fact, you already know them to be true, but most people still don’t bother doing them.
You also know that eating right, and exercising is good for your health, but are you doing it every day?
There are over 15,000 technology VARS in the United States, and hundreds of thousands of people who work in IT sales, and I am the best of them all.
Why can I say that I am the best?
I assure you it is not arrogance and it did not happen overnight.
I started like most other sales people, in a call center, making calls to random people hoping I would find someone looking to give me a chance.
Over the years, while making 100’s of thousands of phone calls and selling 10’s of millions of dollars in technology, I have learned from my customers, prospects, and competitors.
What makes me the greatest?
?1.??????I am fast
This is the sales version of “float like a butterfly and sting like a bee”
Don’t ask “How fast Is fast enough?” – just move faster than you think is possible.
Respond to every request within seconds or minutes. Not hours, days, weeks, or by the time we get a new president.
This is the simplest and most powerful key that has contributed to my success. You don’t need years of experience or a college degree to be fast, anyone can do it, if they make it their #1 priority.
?2.??????I listen, study, and observe
Experience is a great teacher, but it also tends to be very expensive when it causes mistakes. Study and spend your time researching success.
Mark Twain once said, “The Man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can’t read them.”
Sales people will commonly talk themselves right out of winning simply by thinking they already know the answer to the question that hasn’t been asked yet. Take the time to just be quiet and actively listen. There is no long-term benefit of making a sale, if you miss the immediate value of truly amazing each unique customer.

?3.??????I am a realist.
I understand the market does not care about me, nor is it against me. Rejection or success are not personal. I get what I earn, and I lose what I don’t. There are always thousands of people working to try and beat me, and the only way to become and then stay #1 is providing a higher level of value than everyone else
?4.??????I am reliable and consistent
This is done by focusing on the four prior points, day after day, week after week, decade after decade. Success is built upon former success, and the success snowball takes a long-time to gain momentum, but it can smash into bits by hitting one rock, if you let it.
To build a reputation as the best, you cannot miss a day, go into a slump, or take off early on Friday’s. When a customer calls, you answer. 2 in the afternoon or 2 in the morning, you are there and ready to help. I am not excited or overly pleased when a customer calls me in the middle of the night, but either are they, something must be wrong for them to be calling, and they know I will be there to answer.
That consistent reliability is what makes all the difference.
?5.??????I am Thankful
It’s amazing to me that a kid from Wisconsin with no college education, connections, or background in excelling in anything, can now be paid more than a Nero-Surgeon, just for doing what I love.
I built my career from the ground up. I was a telemarketer making minimum wage before finding IT sales, and even though most days are long, and some customers may be difficult to work with, I am grateful for the amazing opportunities that sales provide and I treat every customer like my best customer and show my gratitude by being the #1 option in the IT industry.?
?I do not have to say that I am the best Technology VAR in the country, because my customers and my results say it for me.
Are you the very best at what you do?
If you are not, then I strongly encourage you to ask yourself what is holding you back, and then get your game plan together to take control of your career.
?I would love to hear what key traits and values have you found to be the biggest contributors to your success.
