Why An AI Generated Resume Won't Show Employers You Have AI Skills

The bright shiny object to employers in 2025 is AI skills.
More and more jobs are listing AI skills as "nice to haves", or even requirements.
You see it in more and more job descriptions, even though few jobs today actually use AI. Sure, experienced Machine Language Engineers have killer AI skills, but that's not you (and it's not most candidates).
So you might think that using AI to generate or tweak your resume would show employers you have killer AI skills.
But here's why using AI on your resume won't make employers impressed with your AI skills:
- Recruiters/Hiring Managers Can Recognize AI Generated Language: Unless you're an experienced Machine Language Engineer, your ability to use AI to generate human sounding text are rudimentary (Hint: AI generated language isn't supposed to look AI generated). So, you give the impression of having lousy AI skills, when you use AI to generate or tweak your resume.
- AI Gives Average Results From The Internet: Do you think average results will help you stand out? That's why AI generated resumes appear average from the employer's point of view.
- Employers Expect More From Job Seekers Than Just Being Qualified: With 2025's competition levels, employers expect to see 5-10 qualified candidates competing for each interview spot being offered (So employers trying to fill 10 spots expect 50-100 qualified candidates, plus all the unqualified ones). You have to present yourself as more than just qualified, when all of your competitors are qualified (so qualified = average).
- 33% Of Employers Now Use AI Enhanced ATSs To Identify AI Generated Resumes: New versions of Applicant Tracking Systems include AI tools, to make it easier for employers to identify AI generated/assisted resumes. Do you think it will impress employers when they see your written communication was AI generated, and not yours?
Do any of the above sound like your AI resume will help you get interviews or job offers?
Why not instead learn how you can make your resume stand head and shoulders over your competition, so your resume sounds like you (not a robot)?
During my next free Resume Webinar - 3 Ways AI Hurts Your Resume/Job Search, I'll teach more reasons why AI is not your resume's friend, and why AI generated/enhanced resumes make you less likely to get interviews, advance or get offers, making your job search longer.
And then I'll show you what's more effective than sending auto-tailored resumes, that will help you stand out to employers, so you'll get more interviews, advance more often in the hiring process, and turn interviews into offers.
While we're at it, I'll show you ways to double your interviews, whether you're currently employed, unemployed, age 40+, changing careers, or have other job search challenges.
