Why is Agile eating the world?
Marc Andreessen’s famous 2011 essay “Why Software Is Eating the World” still holds true today, there is another apex predator that is eating the world. Today, Agile is eating the world.
No matter whether you agree or disagree that Agile is eating the world, one thing that is difficult to disagree with is that modern enterprises need different ways of working in order to be successful in an age where they must be nimble, adaptable and responsive to changes in a marketplace driven by customers while keeping their people aligned and engaged.
So, what is it about this new way of working, this label “Agile” that has companies and people alike in such a rapture? A few good reasons;
- It’s evolutionary; it gives us the chance to continue to learn and grow
- It builds relationships; it gets us out of our chairs, silos, hovels, etc and makes us interact with people
- It nurtures skills not ego; it gets us to take an ‘us’ or ‘we’ approach rather than ‘I’ approach
- It allows us to be creative; it gives us the opportunity to think for ourselves and innovate
- It is social change; it is a change in behaviour and mindset that will prepare us for the revolution yet to come
Agile allows us to be creative, innovative, engaged and bold in our work.
It allows human beings to use their full potential to create value for other human beings.

5 年"Agile” as a synonym for good. “Agile” as a particular workflow. “Agile” as a set of practices. “Agile” as an ideal. “Agile” as a set of target outcomes. “Agile” as a community. “Agile” as doctrine, or a set of fundamental principles that guide actions in support of objectives

5 年This is true for some definition of ‘Agile’ which I call lowercase agile. However there is now another definition of agile which I call capital Agile which is more about making money from or controlling a process under the guise of ‘Agile’ and these are not agile in the true sense of the word or at least what I would call Agile. In lowercase agile there is no coach there are only people looking to ‘use their full potential to create value for other human beings’ and adapt everything to make that the most important goal.
