WHY AFRICAN YOUTH'S LEADERSHIP SKILL SHORTAGES ARE AT A HIGHER END.
“Success is a process, a quality of mind and way of being, an outgoing affirmation of life." ― Alex Noble
Having young people who have impactful, innovative, and empathetic leadership skills have become more challenging, especially in our climes.
Leadership skills are not the same as holding a degree in Education, Computer science, or civil engineering.
Another challenge the youths face in this era is neglecting the principles of due process. Not that the youths aren't talented but that they lack the enthusiasm to do the work. There are many creatives with 80% hard skills and competence but only 20% have soft skills which is a major skill in demand.
When you skip processes, it's unlikely that you will arrive at the required results. When you continuously leave tasks haphazardly, it shows that you're disoriented and not goal-oriented. There's an inward leadership that manifests outwardly. When you're able to lead yourself intentionally then you will be able to lead others.
The most common source of confusion about leadership is our tendency to equate it with authority. We equate leadership with a high position of power. Thinking of leadership and authority as if they were the same thing clouds our thinking and blurs key aspects of both. It gives us a restricted idea of what leadership is, who can exercise it, and the natural practices of authority itself.
When I began volunteering with the?#HultPrize?the goal was to gather enough experiences, grow my network and develop new knowledge about the program without any immediate reward in sight. While I have grown through the program, I've realized that the experiences are worth more than any tangible reward. This is the result of following due process while learning about the role with great optimism.
Over the years, I have worked with young people who have become impatient, and demand immediate rewards at every given opportunity. They want to be at the top, rubbing shoulders with so much ego and discontent.

Are you the kind of youth who have no respect for hierarchy, quits jobs at every interval, has poor management skills, poor interpersonal relationships, and poor communication skills?
As a leader, empathy contributes to positive relationships and organizational cultures and it also drives results. Empathy may not be a brand new skill, but it has a new level of importance and the fresh research makes it especially clear how empathy is a leadership competency to develop and demonstrate now and in the future work. -?#Forbes
