Why advertise when you can create organic content for free on social media?

They say the best way to learn something is to teach it. So I'm going to share with you my take on the Masterclass I attended recently by #WayneLiew, Head of Advertising for #Mindvalley. Wayne leads a team that's responsible for an 8- figure US dollar annual advertising budget. Obviously, he’s learned a ton of lessons from spending such a huge amount on advertising in social media.
Actually, his title was “’Inbound or Advertising?’ and why this question is so wrong” but I’ve put it in my own words.
Question - What's the one thing in common about all social media platforms whether it's Twitter, #LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest or YouTube?
Algorithms!
Yup, you should know by now, you can have truckloads of fans and followers but the platform is going to determine how many of your friends and followers actually get to see your content. Hence,
Risk#1 - You can’t control who sees your content!
That’s where #advertising comes in!
Wayne says you can test your concept for a slow as RM3. And you can control your ad spend too. So, for as low as RM50-100 per month or per week, you can advertise on social media and get to your target market! How cool is that?
By the way, Wayne's recommendation is to cap spending at USD20/per day per ad set. Isn't that good to know?
Risk #2 - You might make the wrong call on your content
You could be spending hours or even days creating a piece of beautiful content and spend money on photography, design and so on only to learn that your content doesn't really have traction with your audience. Wasteful, isn't it?
Conversely, when you advertise and test every piece of content before you spend big money, you will have control over what works, which is the better, more preferred content.
Finally, you can also get better results by advertising on YouTube.
Do you know what's the number one ranking factor for YouTube Search and Recommended Videos? It's something called total accumulated watch time. In other words, the total amount of time people spent watching the video.
Through experimentation and testing, Wayne discovered that by overlaying your video over high ranking videos you increase the number of people who watch as well as the time spent watching. This is one piece of insight is huge and worth the entire Masterclass!
By the way, you only get charged when people watch more than five seconds of your video.
