When faced with a counteroffer at work, it's important to take a step back and carefully weigh the potential consequences. While the immediate benefits may seem appealing, it's crucial to consider the broader impact on your career.
Accepting a counteroffer that only comes after you've decided to leave raises concerns about your employer's recognition of your value. If a pay raise was possible, why wasn't it offered earlier? Accepting a raise in response to a resignation may leave you questioning the sincerity of the acknowledgment.

Promises of promotions during a counteroffer negotiation may not materialize. If a promotion was genuinely on the table, why wasn't it discussed before? Accepting a counteroffer based on promises of career advancement may lead to disappointment if those assurances don't come to fruition.

11 个月Great overview. If you've clearly communicated your issues and the company valued your contributions, then they would react before you get a new offer. Accepting counter offers are never long term solution!

11 个月This is a great article, Katelyn, I think so often people know they want to move but the count offer is a safety blanket that is a blocker to exploring the next opportunity they want and deserve. Keeping these things in mind when applying for a job is so important to prevent individuals falling into the counter offer trap!
