Why ACCA, you ask? Well, it’s the passport to your future success!

I have been present at a number of educational expos each year for the past 7 years as an ambassador for ACCA, and a question that potential students and their parents often ask is “Why ACCA?” to which my response is “ACCA is the passport to your future success!”

To me, the ACCA qualification has been the stepping-stone for everything that I have achieved to date in terms of higher education and career. I am very proud to be a member of ACCA because it has given me so many opportunities to build my network, strengthen professional relationships and gain a lot of valuable insights and experience.

Every day, atleast one student asks me something related to ACCA. Be it about how to complete their PER to achieve membership, or even something simple like a tip on passing an exam, or navigating through their myACCA account, or even as to why they should pick ACCA in the first place, it is still the best feeling in the world to know that I have helped them and also helped to give back to the profession, atleast in a small way.

I was an invitee at the new member ceremony in Sri Lanka which was held in July this year, where I had the privilege of witnessing ACCA’s President Brian McEnery deliver the key note address. In his very illuminating speech, he spoke about some of ACCA’s core values; about it being a qualification that is accessible to those of ability and not of privilege, and about the opportunities that one would have by virtue of holding the ACCA qualification. He also emphasized that we, as ACCA members, need to be strategists who find solutions to the problems, because ACCA members are not mere accountants, but are forward-thinking professionals who are equipped with much more than just technical knowledge. And this is indeed the message that we advocates need to carry; this is why ACCA is the future of the accountancy profession.

There are over 198,000 ACCA members around the world and I often think, “If all of us were to be active advocates for the qualification, what a difference that would make…” That is my motivation every day to do my part for ACCA.
