"The CEO and team who started this company wrote our values and descriptive sayings. We have our screensavers, pictures in every office of our sayings and values.
They are in all meetings, all offsites…”
Someone recently shared how they make values more than just words in their company that they are absolutely ecstatic about working at!
Most leaders struggle to make culture change stick. The data says: over 75% of large-scale change efforts fail.
Every leader wants to know, Why? How do I avoid it???
Welcome to Being Human at Work
"Have you ever tried changing a habit?", I’d ask a CEO or a head of culture.
How was it?
Did you just change how you do things day one and never look back?
Or you struggled quite a bit changing your old ways, you didn’t feel all that comfortable, and maybe even got back to doing things as usual?
Change is hard. Habits are hard to break.
Especially when the new way is unclear, when there's no step-by-step, there are no visual reminders, no daily tracking, no small wins celebrated, no routine to reflect and adjust.
And yet, in business, we expect people, as Nike has it, to "just do it?"

From Coaching People to Changing Cultures
I’ve spent 15 years coaching leaders 1-1 through change, change of their daily habits, old ways of thinking, and I can tell you one thing – change works the same for anyone with a brain??, and when it doesn’t work, it’s usually for the same reasons.
Even when I, with all my experience, needed to build a habit of daily business outreach—I had to put a paper habit tracker on my wall.
Surely, after 15 years of coaching and innovation, there’s a better way?
Surely not.
Your brain hasn’t changed in millennia. If you don’t have visual cues for new behaviors, you’ll default to old ones pretty damn soon.
"The CEO and team who started this company wrote our values and descriptive sayings - we have our screensavers, pictures in every office of our sayings / values. They are in all meetings, all offsites…”
When change works – it works the same way everywhere.
Human brain doesn’t change at home, at work or in space.
Leader’s reflection question: How have you changed your workplace to match the change you seek?
