Why 66.7% of My Students Will Recommend Coding to Friends Without A Science Background.

Why 66.7% of My Students Will Recommend Coding to Friends Without A Science Background.

This year 2020, we wanted to know if our students will recommend coding to all their friends even if they did not come from a science background.

For 28.6%, it was an outright “YES.”

4.8% did not agree with the experts that anyone from any educational background can code. This was a bit surprising, but I respect their opinion.

What interested me was the majority 66.7%.

They said they will recommend coding to someone without a science background. But that will depend on their passion.

This reminded me of William AUTO's comment on my last post.

I also remember sharing this same opinion with student developers at Seven Academy and students of the University of Douala.

Passion Drives Success

I’ve read many authors who argue that anyone in any field does a better job when he or she is passionate about what he or she does. I don't argue with that. In fact, I agree.

Dustin Marx took it further.

In talking with associates, friends, and family members in various careers, it seems to me that engineers in general and software engineers/programmers/developers specifically tend to be more passionate about what they do than many folks in other industries.
There are some other areas that have this similar high-level of passion across the industry: education comes to mind.
However, it is difficult to think of any industry that is more prone than ours to have people go home for the day and continue doing at home on their own time the same general type of things they have just finished doing during the day.

Why I Partially Agree With Dustin

Apart from Seven Academy, we incubate student developers at Seven GPS. I’ve got engineers who literally sleep in the office some days.

Yes! You need passion to succeed. You need passion to learn code if you’re coming from a non-computer science background.

Coding and technology at Seven Advanced Academy is not a matter of your computer background? because lecturers at Seven will help motivate all their students explicitely which will build a strong passion within you when you see yourself doing stuffs you never had an idea about that alone will be enough reason for us especially the Seven girls to pull in many into the field irrespective? of their backgrounds .
