Why 43% of Resolutions Fail

New Year’s resolutions, while popular, are deeply rooted in human psychology and behaviour. They stem from a desire for self-improvement, fuelled by the significance of a new year as a fresh beginning and an opportunity for personal growth.

But why do over 43% of our new years resolutions fail within the first month?

  • Changing too many things at once.
  • Starting with a habit that is too big.
  • Focusing on the outcome and not the process.
  • Not looking at the big picture.
  • Thinking that small changes don’t matter.

How can we have a better chance at succeeding?

  • Break down your goal into multiple parts, by doing this you can identify exactly how many things need to change and in what order.
  • Work on one thing at a time, then focus on that singular thing.
  • Focus on behaviour instead of the outcome.
  • Realise that small changes add up.
  • Structure your environment to nurture the change you want.
