Why 2025 is the year cities will move smarter – a letter from Jyoti Goyal

2025 feels like a real turning point for how we move around cities. And while I recently joined AppyWay as Head of Product, in my first 100 days I have come across something much bigger happening across the UK.

For decades, our approach to managing streets has remained largely unchanged.

The way we’ve managed kerbs and parking spaces has been stuck in the past, a static system for a world that now has a new demand for spaces. I see it firsthand at AppyWay, where we're digitising traditional kerb spaces into data-driven zones: spaces that can switch from delivery zones to EV charging spots to parking, all based on needs. That kind of flexibility just wasn't possible before.

When I started at AppyWay, I faced an exciting challenge: how can we use data to make our kerbs and streets work better for everyone?

I’m not just focused on solving today’s challenges—I’m driven by a vision of the cities our kids will inherit. Cleaner air, less congestion, and streets designed to work smarter, not harder—that’s the vision driving me.

When people can easily share their thoughts about their streets, amazing things happen.

At AppyWay, we're not just collecting their feedback – we're turning it into real data that helps cities make better decisions. It's like having a conversation with your whole city, where everyone gets a voice and sees the impact of their input.

2025 is shaping up to be a game-changer for how our streets work. The government has set a deadline for all councils to go digital with their parking and loading rules by summer. At AppyWay, we're turning all these rules into something beneficial through our Kerbside API. Instead of confusing regulations, we're creating clear, real-time information about where you can park, load, or charge your car.

What makes my role so fulfilling is the collaboration it involves. I work with city officials, local councils, and businesses to bring these changes to life. It’s not just about the number of parking spots or the length of loading bays; it’s about improving how our cities function for everyone.

“With the right technology, collaboration, and forward-thinking policies, we’re poised to turn our streets into the flexible, efficient spaces our future cities need. And that future starts now.”

Looking ahead, I see AppyWay as the operating system for our streets—a unifying force that helps cities, businesses, and residents work together seamlessly. When we get this right, our kerb spaces won't just be places to park anymore. They'll become something much more valuable: flexible spaces that help create the cleaner, safer cities we all want to live in. And the year 2025 will be a fantastic year to make it all happen.

Thanks Jyoti Goyal! Very interested to learn more about the regulation/policy that requires all councils to go digital before summer. Could you direct me to the source?
