For a ton of different reasons, 2021 was a crazy year.
Next year, the talent market will be even crazier. Whenever this happens, recruitment becomes important, whether to hire new people or to replace the ones that leave. And I do believe that 2022 will reach new records.
2022 will be the year of recruitment but also and mostly the year of recruiters. (Bye Bye year of the Tiger ??)
Founders, CHRO, Head of TA, cherish your recruiters! ??

People looking for a different job in 2022, what do you waiting for, become a recruiter! ??
Why 2022 will be the year of recruitment
3 main things will peak in 2022: People quitting, Remote hiring, and startup money.
1?? Some people call it the great resignation or the big quit. A lot of people wants to change job and most of them already did.
What does it mean?
Well if people are changing jobs, they will need to be hired somewhere. Besides, they will need to be replaced. For every person that changes job, two recruitment actions take place
Why do people leave?
Some workers don't have the choice those days. If you work in tourism, travel or hospitality, for instance, some people lost their job and they got to find something else.
But there is also the category of people. The one that wants to fight. They need a job with meaning and not just another bullsh** job. Fighting climate change for instance should be the number 1 driver of many people.
Finally, many realized the importance of personal life compared to professional life. This may be the positive impact of COVID somehow, making health (physical and mental) at the center of the board.
2?? The startup founding went crazy in 2022. I'm a bit biased because I'm deeply rooted in it but I mean look at that.
What does it mean?
The more startups are raising money, the more they will hire people.
3?? Along with crazy startup funding, we can notice the acceleration of full remote / work from anywhere kind of companies.
The war for talent is not local anymore but it's started to become a global one (or at least a regional one).
As a result, the competition to attract the best talent will be even higher. This is even more accurate for tech companies and tech profiles. People are more and more demanding toward their company. Companies need more and more people to face their global challenges. The local market walls got destroyed and people can work together no matter where they sit in the world.
If you add to that the fact that companies realize how critical recruitment teams and hiring managers can be, you can easily understand why 2022 will be the year of recruitment
What will make 2022 the best year for recruiters to be alive
Well lucky us then. 2020 was a tough year for everyone. A lot of companies, even tech startups froze their recruitment and a lot of recruiters got fired.
But here are the reasons why there is no better time than now to be alive as a recruiter.
? The job is different in every company. I hired people in 7 companies already and this is always different. Different industries. Different company sizes. Different types of companies. Different countries
? As recruiters, we have a global overview of what's happening everywhere in the company. As a result, it's one of the jobs where you learn the most about every role. There is no better business training, mostly for junior people.
? The job is more and more wide and diverse. I mean you jump from marketing (employer branding) to being a tech nerd (sourcing) through company organization and almost philosophy (culture and values) through the legal aspect (visa and contracts).
? We are becoming more and more experts at what we do. The job is becoming more and more recognized and crucial and recruiters usually join startups earlier in the founding rounds than before. Companies realize that they need to rely on recruiters to win the talent war.
? We have the choice to become an expert in sourcing, in employer branding, or to become "full-stack recruiters" or even to turn to HR or sales later on. And ever to become a CEO!
? The communities are more and more crucial to the job. Covid affected us a lot but one of the consequences was to bring people together, people with the same challenges and struggles. There are more and more communities that give recruiters a safe space.
? There are more and more tools than ever. This makes our life easier and helps us to focus on the more important thing. Optimized sourcing, structured interviews, employer branding strategy...
? Even if we don't often get the recognition we deserve, we do have an impact on the life of the people. Especially during these crazy times.
How to cherish your recruiters (current and future)
So you got it now.
2022 will be the year of recruitment.
2022 will be the year of recruiters.
What to do to attract the best recruiters to work with you and mostly, keep them happy?
?? First of all, Respect your recruiters. R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
?? Give them enough budget (if you use fewer agencies, you can give more to your recruiters)
?? Let them use the tools they prefer. There is a lot of them out there. To each their own.
?? Don't let your recruiters become understaffed. Otherwise, all of your positions will be late somehow.
?? Let them have side projects. Things that excite them. It's not human to do interviews all day. At least, not sustainable.
?? Recruitment is not only the recruiter job. Avoid an "If it works, it's normal, if not, this is my recruiter's fault" mentality. Never forget that.
Now, I'm curious to see what do you think about it. Will 2022 be the year of recruiters?
Here, have a cookie ??, give it to the next recruiter you'll talk to.
