Why I’m doing what I’m doing (and these before pictures were hard to show)
So anyone who knows me, knows I’m just a Geordie lad who tries to work hard and help people where possible.
I’m the proud Daddy to beautiful 12 year old twin girls and everything I do, I do with them in mind. Hence this challenge.
My Mum was diagnosed with Dementia some time ago, but the disease took hold a lot quicker than anyone thought it would. Over the last few months, she’s been in and out of hospital with a range of infections. The last visit was the worst.
The results of a routine blood test showed that she has Myloma (blood cancer). Unfortunately, due to her weakened state they said they couldn’t treat her. It was a simple case of providing end of life care, keeping her fluids up and the pain to a minimum.
If that wasn't hard enough to deal with, I then got a message this week to say that the doctors have advised we start to look at ‘making arrangements'.
Now, with all this going on, it was yet another shocking reminder of just how short life really is!
As I sit here expanding in every way…feeling sorry for myself, I have two choices. I either mope around, comfort eat and feel like the world has got it in for me…OR, get off my fat ass and do something worthwhile.
I chose the latter!
I made a decision. The right decision. I have set myself a challenge to lose 100lb in 12 months!
It’s going to be difficult and I have accepted this, but if it wasn’t, I don’t think I’d feel like I achieved anything. So, I officially start on my Mums birthday, the 4th September (I’ll be eating Chinese and ice cream like it’s going out of fashion up to then). This is something I NEED to do.....something I am GOING to do.... something I CAN and WILL do.
Not only do I get the opportunity to raise money for an incredible charity, DEMENTIA UK, but I have the added benefit of getting my health back on track. Anyone who has children will understand when I say how important it is to prolong my life so I can still be a Daddy to my girls for a lot longer. I hope to inspire and support others through their own challenges knowing we are all in in together.
As the old saying goes, 'You can't pay people to do your sit ups for you' ...Cos if we could I'd be broke and have a 6 pack ;-)
I want to also say thank you for those of you who have reached out already. The responses and donations have been overwhelming.
Join me from the 4th September and follow my journey to success...

5 年Good luck, it will be a long journey, but a fulfilling one at the end of the road. I was 135kg (I think that's 21 stone in your measurement?) in December and it scared me. Never thought it'd get this high. Through exercise and change of diet since June, I was able to bring it down to 113kg (17.7 stone I think) now.? Not there yet, but it's a happy progress on my part, plus I've lost it gradually and steadily. So as long as I keep up a good diet and regular exercise, it should stay off.? Good luck to you!! How has your journey been so far?

5 年I just happened to have stumbled across this but this is an amazing challenge! I’m routing for you. If you put your mind to it, you will get that 100lb off. It’s a tough slog- I’ve lost 8.5 stone myself & the advice I’d give you is to keep reminding yourself why, take progress photos to see how far you’ve come & set yourself mini goals each week/month so you’re not always focusing on that big 100 figure. You’ve got this! I’m also a Dementia Champion so a wonderful cause to be raising money for and spreading awareness of. Well done & good luck x
