“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
I read this quote earlier this month and felt it was very appropriate for the current turmoil that many talented people are facing in the workplace. For the first time since the Dot Com crash, those in the Big Tech space are facing major layoffs. Many of these issues stem from the hiring binge that Big Tech companies went on during the pandemic to meet the technology needs to support a remote workforce and the uptick in e-commerce. While overall spending in IT is forecast to grow modestly in 2023, the growing trend towards automation, supply chain issues, inflation, and the ongoing war in Ukraine are all causing fears of recession. The silver lining for technology professionals is that many of the layoffs involve non-technical staff and the need for experienced technical talent has led to a raise in salaries for those individuals.
If you have been impacted by recent layoffs, please don’t hesitate to connect with us and we will explore ways we can support you in the search for your next opportunity.
