Whose problem is it?

How much thinking do you leave to your advisors or employees?

Whose problem is it if a mistake is made?

You are ultimately always responsible for the work done for you. And you will carry the consequences of mistakes.

Keeping on top of everything without micromanaging is a balance worth going for.

We can outsource the task - but not the responsibility

It’s a difficult balance: taking responsibility but also allowing people to operate autonomously and, by virtue, making them responsible for outcomes and shortfalls. When you’re a leader who is truly invested, Its tempting to want to assume the blame for all missteps but it’s a short-sighted view that inhibits growth for the business and the employees / advisors.

It is NEVER about mistakes. Very few are made intentional. It's how you handle the mistake. Blame game is a VERY bad sign for interpersonal or company morality. And one for bureaucracy. And back to the fire fighters' proverb: "Oh holy dear Saint Florian, don't burn my house, take the neighbor's one". Just had a discussion yesterday with my daughter on it. "It wasn't me" is bad. Show responsibility, take the blame, evolve by making it better next time.
