Who's In Your Inner Circle?

Who's In Your Inner Circle?

This post originally appeared on the John Maxwell Team blog.

We’ve all heard the saying that you are the average of the five people closest to you and as John Maxwell says in The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, “A leader’s potential is determined by those closest to him.” The point is we all understand that it’s important to attract the kind of people who can help elevate you, and in order to do that you must be conscious of the kind of people you invite into your inner circle.

Certified John Maxwell Team member Bobby Allen knows the importance of surrounding yourself with leaders and mentors which is why the John Maxwell Team was the right fit for him.

“At an early age I discovered that I had the ability to influence others through the gift of leadership,” Bobby said. “I have been an avid student of leadership ever since. I found John Maxwell and his writings and teachings to be extremely valuable sources for my learning both personally and professionally.” When Bobby found The John Maxwell Team he realized how high his leadership lid could go.

“I saw it as an opportunity to be a part of the best leadership and coaching organization on the planet,” he told us. “I also knew that I needed to be invested in and challenged to be a better leader. What better opportunity than to belong to the JMT? I also saw it as a perfect opportunity to add value to the JMT as well as to grow and connect with other leaders worldwide.”

Since joining, Bobby has done just that. In 2016 he traveled to Paraguay with the JMT to spark a leadership transformation. “Being with the JMT in Paraguay convinced me that I was with an organization that was committed to raising the leadership lid of every person, leader and organization throughout the world. I felt that I was a part of history in helping lay the foundation of a healthy leadership infrastructure for the entire country of Paraguay,” he said. Through round table sessions and interactions with JMT members and leaders, Bobby was able to make meaningful connections while adding value to the lives of others. “This experience affirmed my belief that transformation begins in me, then through me.”

Bobby has dedicated his life to encourage and equip leaders today so they can leave their legacy tomorrow. As a man who has dedicated his life’s work to leadership and personal growth, he offered some very passionate advice for individuals beginning their own journeys. “Get to know yourself and how you’re wired so that you can leverage your whole self to lead and feed leaders, who will then lead and feed other leaders, who will lead and feed other leaders,” he said. “And because we attract who we are, not who we want, build an inner circle of high level leaders and loyal committed people to you and your vision; people who share and support your vision and think different thoughts at the same time. Find a way to be with the best leaders you can find and learn and grow from them and with them. Intentionally add value to everyone you meet and every situation you encounter on a daily basis.”

So important to have a inner circle that is looking for you to succeed and for you to want them to succeed as well. Another wonderful lesson.
