Who’s your Glyn?

Who’s your Glyn?

Is your mind always active - having lots of conversations with yourself, thinking of great ideas which only you know about?

I have great conversations and ideas in my head but when I start to express them they never come out as clearly as I thought they would.?In my head they are perfectly formed and easy to understand.??

But from the time it takes to travel from my head to my mouth into the other person's ears and into their brain, the idea has morphed into complexity and confusion.??

I used to blame the other person, 'they must be dull to not see how brilliant this idea is'.?

I used to get so frustrated by how slow they were and how many question they kept asking.?

In the end I was was so exasperated that I gave in, went quite again and and went back into my own head, where everything was so clear.??

How could they not understand it??

And the most annoying part was that a few months later, someone else would come up with my same idea and everyone would say how wonderful it was and how come we hadn't though about this before.

There is only so many times this can happen before you either give up and stop contributing or you do something different.?

For a while I stopped contributing but that didn't work. I couldn't stop the ideas forming and I'd get fidgety in my chair and would eventually have to stand up and say something.?

You can imagine the how well that went!

So I decided to try something totally different.?I went on a presentation skills course and I met this amazing trainer called Glyn.?

He showed me how to present ideas simply, how to use analogies, how to build a story and most importantly how to think from the listener's perspective.

I only met Glyn twice.?He died shortly after out last workshop and I felt so lucky to have worked with him.?

He opened my eyes to a different way of communicating, a way in which I put the listener first and then figure out how best to get my message across in a way that they can understand it as easily as I can.??

When you look back from where you have come from, who were you lucky enough to meet that changed the way you interact??And what did you learn that changed the way you live your life now??
