Although #quarantined due to #Covid19, I feel more connected to myself, family, and community than I have in years. I have more time to sit in reflection and time to nurture personal relationships. Plus, likely due to awareness of, and access to, local resources, my networking efforts have increased exponentially in recent months.
Even though I am sometimes scared about the future, my basic needs are met (Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs). I don’t have to wonder where I will sleep tonight, when I will eat, how to stay warm, or how I will access medical care. I feel safe knowing that I can lock my doors tonight and it is likely that I won’t be robbed. Plus, the interaction I’ve had in the last few months has been quite fulfilling. I remember what it was like to not feel this way. I’m meeting at least the first four levels of Maslow’s Hierarchy, but there are so many souls who are not meeting the first level. I know what that feels like. I, too, was #homeless.
Although I might not have an extra bed to share tonight, I do have extra canned goods, and sheets, and towels to donate. I might not have a large check to write, I do have pocket change. I might not be face-to-face to those who provide direct resources, but I can refer those who need it to those who have it.
Maybe a little more patience and kindness is all we need. Awareness is necessary. Encouragement is vital. Support is key. #Nonprofits offer resources to meet these needs, especially when we are on lockdown. Consider supporting through time or #donation.
