Which astronaut is the leader, in this image? Which ones are followers?
When we talk about leadership, too often we focus on the individual in charge. We think about what they did to get there and how they can maintain their power. But true leadership isn’t about having power over others; it’s about using your influence to help others reach their goals.
Servant leadership is all about putting the needs of others first and leading by example. It’s about being a leader who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty and do whatever it takes to help those they are responsible for.
In today’s world, there is a lot of focus on individual achievement and success. However, servant leaders know that true greatness comes from helping others reach their potential. They are willing to sacrifice their own time and comfort for the good of those they lead.
One of the most important aspects of servant leadership is building relationships of trust with those you lead. When people trust you, they are more likely to follow your lead and be inspired by your example. Servant leaders work hard to earn the trust of those they lead, and they are always honest and transparent.
Each astronaut here has a role to help each other survive and complete their mission. Leaders are accountable for their team’s well-being and mission objectives. In the harshness of outer space, the team’s needs come first. They are a team of servant leaders.
