WHO’s 2017 Public Health Champion Awards

WHO Country Office for India intends to recognize efforts of both, individual and institution who have made an outstanding contribution to public health through advocacy for and involvement in impactful health policies, strategies and programmes with proven public health achievements and substantial improvement in health outcomes with equity in the country.

The awards comprise two categories:

(i) Sustained contribution to the field of public health, and

(ii) Innovation

The awards are for both, individuals as well as institutions, in each of the two categories.

This year a special award will be given for outstanding work in the field of mental health.

Criteria For The Awards:

The scope of the awards will cover both, individuals and institutions who/which have contributed to greatly advancing population and personal services and inter-sectoral actions. In addition, contributions in line with any of WHO's six core functions are also covered within the scope of these awards:

-Providing leadership on matters critical to health and engaging in partnerships where joint action is needed;

-Shaping the research agenda and stimulating the generation, translation and dissemination of valuable knowledge;

-Setting norms and standards and promoting and monitoring their implementation;

-Articulating ethical and evidence-based policy options;

-Providing technical support, catalysing change, and building sustainable institutional capacity; and

-Monitoring the health situation and assessing health trends.

Criteria For Nomination:

-The nominee should have a proven and unblemished track record of working in the field of public health for at least 10 years;

-The nominees will be institutions and individuals outstanding in their field of work having provided exemplary leadership and advocacy in public health;

-The nominees and their achievements are unquestionable and unimpeachable;

-The nominees have provided inspiration and leadership in implementing public health activities, policies or programs;

-If an institution, preference will be given to not for profit set-ups;

-Higher weightage will be given to individuals and organizations working in the difficult to access and under-served areas.

Nomination process and timelines:

Nomination can be done by the nominee or by nominators. If you are nominating yourself or your own organization, please select ‘Self-nomination’ and if you are nominating someone or organization other than yours, please select ‘Nomination for others’ in the selection block.

In case of ‘Nomination for others’ we will reach out to the nominee(s) for detailed information on their work/contribution in the relevant category. In this case, if the nominee is not able to provide the details in the ‘Self-nomination form’ by the application deadline, the nomination application will be considered incomplete.

The final nominations will be reviewed by a core group at the WHO Country Office for India.

The awards will be given on the World Health Day, 7 April 2017.

All nominations are accepted online only and the process of online application and preliminary verification is handled by NGOBOX.
