Whom Are You Talking To?

This past week, I committed the number one marketing sin.
It's also the number one sin as an entrepreneur. A speaker. And a writer.
The sin?
Not knowing your audience.
For example, ask many entrepreneurs, "Who's your product for?" And they'll answer, "Everyone."
Sadly, it's the same when you ask speakers to name their audience. Or writers when you ask them about their ideal readers.
And it's totally the wrong way to go about things.
If you speak to everyone, you speak to no one.
Fortunately, I caught my "sin" early on. I only wasted a couple of hours on my aimless efforts.
But I know countless people who have not only wasted their time, they've wasted thousands or tens of thousands of dollars.
And all that time, money, and energy could have been saved by answering one simple question:
Who's my audience?
