The catastrophic rains, hurricanes, and flooding of 2017 impacted millions of people from Texas to Florida to Puerto Rico and beyond - and 2017 isn't over yet.
While these were extraordinary events, planners and designer can proactively adopt new principles to help mitigate the associated impacts of more intense and more frequent storms. Sort of Urban Design With Nature (to paraphrase Ian McHarg's seminal textbook).
I've listed a few approaches in my newest blog post on GenslerOn, including a new way to talk about storms. (Hint: the term 100-year flood must give way to a more accurate characterization).
